Tour Description
For a real taste of old Jamaica, travel through scenic interior and countryside to the south coast and experience the magic of the Appleton Estates. Upon your arrival you will be greeted, briefed and go on a guide tour of the estate during which you will not only learn how the rum is made, but taste many different blends and get a complimentary bottle of Appleton Jamaican rum. timeless journey through the soul of the finest rums in the world.
The Appleton Estate has been blending rums since 1749 and the Rum Distillery is sited beside the Black River in one of the most beautiful valleys in Jamaica, south of Montego Bay.
You can savour these award-winning rums after you tour the distillery and learn the details of the distilling process from sugarcane, molasses, sugar, to wine and rum.
The magic of the Estate, the first known documentation of rum production at the Appleton Estate is dated 1749, however the origin of the Estate dates back to 1655 when the English captured Jamaica from the Spaniards. During the English empire, when rum was transported back in barrels, it was discovered that the time spent in the barrel combined with the gentle rocking of the ship allowed for a smoother, tastier rum. During the Second World War, whisky was in short supply and experiments were carried out at the Appleton Estate to produce a type of rum that would serve as a substitute. Different rums from assorted barrels of varying age and type were blended together and the result was “Appleton Estate Special Rum.” Appleton Rum was much smoother, lighter and more fragrant than other available rums and proved to be extremely popular.
Appleton Rum became known as Bend Down or Ben Down. Back then it was illegal to sell rum of a certain proof in ordinary bars and shops and Appleton Rum was only sold in private clubs. But Appleton was so preferred by patrons they sold it anyway. It was not displayed, but kept under the counter. As it was not wise to ask loudly for Appleton Rum in the bar, the customer would whisper that he wanted a drink of Bend Down.
A Bar, gift shop, souvenirs and snacks are also available on property. With a wide variety of rums, ranging in age, taste and strength, this won’t be a boring excursion. After your tour of the factory, you have the option of enjoying some Jamaican lunch before returning to your resort in Negril/Lucea.

Good Afternoon Dwight, just wanted to thank you for all of your assistance answering my questions and assisting us in booking our airport transfers and excursions in Jamaica.
Michael our driver was always on time and the perfect host. He met us at the airport and drove us through a pretty bad storm going to Ocho Rios. He was very helpful in assistance us at Blue Hole and Dunn’s River to get our tickets for entry and drive us safely back home.
I would highly recommend him and his professionalism.

Hello Dwight, hope this meets you well. We had a lovely time in Ochi ☺️.
We visited Ocho Rios port as part of our cruise in August. Before our excursion, we were contacted by Dwight to ensure a smooth day. This included what to bring and gave an idea of what to expect which o really liked.
On the day, our Driver Alex was very upbeat and friendly. He talked about sights as we passed by with fun facts and also about the parishes. The overall experience was very seamless and timely as we had 2 excursions in one.

Thanks to Dwight for assistance with booking. We got to see exactly what we wanted to see during our short stay in Jamaica (cruising on Carnival Glory). Next time I hope to be able to spend more time.

This excursion was the highlight of our trip! Our driver Willy was great. He was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions about the island and we got to learn some Jamaican history. The guides at Blue Hole/Secret Falls were the best! They really made us feel safe and had us laughing the entire time. I don’t know if my mom would’ve done the bigger jump if it weren’t for them. The guide and photographer at Dunn’s River Falls were also excellent. Overall, we loved this excursion and feel it exceeded our expectations.

Thank you very much for checking in. My mom and I had a great time. Ryan was amazing and just so nice in showing us around. He made sure we had a great time and we got back to our ship on time. We asked a lot of questions about Jamaica and he was so helpful. We decided that next time we come back to Jamaica we were going to book an Airbnb. We would also love to book another tour with your company too. We really enjoy the Bob Marley Tour and he took us to his favorite restaurant he love to eat at. One day wasn’t enough for us to enjoy Jamaica so we would love to come back.

We had an excellent time going to the secret falls and river tubing in Ocho Rios. Grant was an excellent guide. He was on time, friendly, and a safe driver. It was lovely chatting with him and he definitely read the vibe of the group. At the beginning of the trip, he let us know that he’d be happy to take us wherever throughout the day. One of people in our group wanted to go to an authentic Jamaican restaurant and he took us to Linda’s which was an incredible!
My boys wanted to get cornrows so while we were at the restaurant he went and found someone in town who would be willing to do it right at the restaurant. He also took us to a shop to purchase a few souvenirs. When we didn’t see anything we liked, he took us to two other stores.
Best of all, he knew when we are getting tired toward the end of the day and delivered us safely back to our hotel. If we could give him more than five stars we would.
We hope to return to Jamaica one day and will definitely look you up and recommend you to other people traveling to the area.

Wheelchair Accessible Excursion
We booked this excursion for 5 adults and 2 of the adults are in heavy power wheelchairs. We were picked up at the port by a van that held both chairs and the other 3 passengers comfortably. Our driver was very knowledgeable and worked hard to make our day special. The wheelchair accessible area of the Falls was not available that day, so he made arrangements for us to go to the beach at the bottom of the falls and insisted on unloading the two wheelchairs so that they could enjoy the beach. It was definitely the highlight of our tour and we made memories that we will never forget.
Fun Times in Jamaica
By far one of the best excursions we have had in the Islands. The Blue Hole and Secret Falls were gorgeous. Even though I was too scared to jump I got to video all my family taking the plunge and enjoying themselves. The River Tube was more my speed and what a great time floating down the river, with a few rapids mixed in, and enjoying the beautiful lush scenery. Our tour guides were very attentive and helpful.
